This is the reason why most people hate their jobs

If you are one of the employees anywhere in the world, you might have experienced the feeling of absolutely being disappointed with your job and feeling like resigning the moment your boss scolded you or gave you a mindless task to complete! And it’s normal. Believe me; each and every employee in the world feels like this even those who are not saying it. And they continue to suffer because they don’t see any hope. They have accepted this default way of life.

When I asked myself what makes me happy in spite of being a terrible employee, I was amazed by the answer I got.

What made me happy was not regular pay check I got but the passion I had on the side and the effort I was putting to make that passion come to life.

I observed people around me. After coming home from their jobs, they would just roam ideally, gossip, watch TV or sleep. There was no definite plan of what they wanted to do. When I came home, I had lots of things to look forward to do. I was planning my next book, next seminar, reading something and also working on developing my podcasting skills. This gave me happiness. One hour spend in doing such tasks was more than one week of mindless work at job.

If you are one of those people who hate their job, ask yourself these simple questions, “Am I living my authentic life?”, “Do I have any interests outside my job?”

IF you are not enjoying what you do all day, there’s no point wasting your life by idleness. Develop some interest, learn something, teach something and watch your life gwetting meaningful day by day.

What are you afraid of?

Friends, sitting in my balcony this beautiful rainy weather, something was disturbing me. I went a bit deeper into my feelings as to what was troubling me and I found that deep inside, I was afraid of few things. Things which might go wrong and things I might fail at.

These were disturbing me from fully enjoying the present moment. But then, I came across a quote in the book ‘The 4-Hour work week” by Timothy Ferriss. And it said:

“I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them never happened.” – MARK TWAIN.

Man! How true is that? There no better source for an advice than an old man telling you through his life experience.
This about it friends, 99% of things we worry don’t happen. Why are we spending our time in such things which might never happen?

Time to chill my friends. Whatever your dream is, keep working on it because what you are worrying about right now might never happen.

Biggest mistake of my life

Friends, what’s the biggest mistake you have made in your life?
I’ll tell you mine.
It’s the constant fearing that I’ll make one.
Think of this for a minute friend. We spend so much time worrying about making mistakes that we forget to master our work. And in this process, we delay our work.
But remember one thing; time is much more than money. All those money lost will be back to you but you won’t find that time once lost. So stop fearing about making mistakes and do a lot of work.
When you put out a lot of work over there, you will gain experience and experience my friend, is much…much better than waiting for things to get perfect.
Remember finally, “The greatest mistake you can make in life is continually fearing you’ll make one.”

This is what Success looks like.

After knowing that being successful is a learnable skill, I became an information junkie. I read books, blogs, listened to podcasts, watched inspirational videos, met people, tried few things myself and what I have come to know about being successful is this.

“Success is having time to do things that you want, when you want, where you want and with whom you want.”
Let’s break down this sentence for better clarity.

1. Having time:
Think about it. If you don’t have time to do what you truly want in life, would you be happy? No matter how successful you are, if you don’t have time to spend time with your family, will you be happy? Will you be happy if you don’t have time to meet your best friends?

2. Do things that you want:
In our day to day behaviour, we only do things we want. We behave with our children as we want, we eat what we want, and we buy stuff that we want. What would happen if you had to do things that you don’t want to do? Yes you might earn a lot of money in short term but in long term, you’ll be dying to do things that you want and not what others want.

3. When you want:
Imagine you want to learn how to play a guitar. Would it make sense that you control your learning appetite and postpone learning guitar for 10 years? Let’s take another scenario. You want to help poor people but you keep on making excuses about lack of time/ money. Would you feel happy if you are told that you’ll be able to help them only after 10 years?

4. Where you want:
Would you be happy if you had to relocate for a job and stay away from your family for 3 or more years? Imagine if you had a choice to choose the city and the office you had to work on your own terms!

5. With whom you want:
Imagine you are working for a company where you have a terrible boss sucking the life out of you and your working space is full of co-workers who are constantly playing politics in order to being you down. What if you had a full choice who to work with and you are the one recruiting the best people who truly love the job they do.

In life, you might have to let go of any of above things but it should never stop you from finding all the good things that life has to offer. If you ever meet a person who calls himself successful, ask them if they have all the above things in their life. And if you ever call yourself successful, measure not your success only in terms of money but in terms of all the things that money cannot buy because Success is having time to do things that you want, when you want, where you want and with whom you want.

How to know if you are on right track

I was confused. I was sick. I was tired. I didn’t know what to do. I was trying hard. I was trying really hard working on my dreams. And yet I was failing. Falling flat on my face every single time.
But then, I got a breakthrough. I got a great response from my audience. People loved my seminars. They gave excellent feedback. My sessions were helping people. They felt connected. I was happy.
But as we all know, life is never a straight line. It’s always full of ups and down till we die. And now I am sad again.
And therefore, I am holding in my hand, Chris Guillebeau’s 1st book, THE ART OF NON-CONFORMITY. And he wrote,

When you look to yourself instead of anyone else for answers, you are on right track.”

And man, he’s so right.

While I was upset and looking for answers, I wasn’t looking for answers from anyone else. I was just thinking and letting my conscience answer me. It felt so right after reading that quote from the book.

What about you? Who are you looking for answers to?

My advice, look within.

A question for all those who are dissatisfied with their current lives.

How many times have you heard this question, “Where do you want to be in 5 years?” Employers ask this question most of the time and all the candidates are well prepared with the answers. Some do really mean it but majority are just trying to answer the question just to satisfy the interviewer. But have you really thought about what difference this question can make in your life?

Most people just go through lives day by day doing the same things they did a month ago. They don’t even think why they are doing the thing they are doing. Days pass by and they keep on complaining why they are not getting the raise they want, why their financial situation is not improving, why their social life is in danger, why are new problems arising in their lives every new day and many more.

If this is your situation, then you forgot to ask yourself one simple question that can change your life. It is:

“Based on my current daily actions and routines, where would I expect to be in five years?”

Set aside one day and look at your actions. Are you doing the tasks which will move you closer to your goals or happiness?

If you are not happy right now, it’s because what you have done till now was not enough to make you happy. Are you doing the same things, taking same actions and making same mistakes now? Don’t you think that if you keep on doing the same mistakes, you’ll have the same results in future as you are getting now?

If yes, then you need to ask yourself the question again, “Based on my current daily actions and routine, where would I expect to be in five years?”
Think about it in a quiet space and rethink about the changes you need to make in your daily actions in order to get where you want to be.

The only sentence enough to help you start your dream project.

Have you ever felt that you want to start something but couldn’t motivate yourself enough to take the first step? Imagine a scenario. It’s been years you want to start your dream project, your passion, you work which you can’t live without. You are excited every morning about the work but the moment you return from your job in the evening, you lose all the motivation you had at first place. And this goes on for months and months. You are now beginning to hate yourself for not starting. You slowly begin wondering whether you’ll ever start your dream project. What should you do in that case?
I went through the similar situation and finally learned how to get free from it and start that project right that very second. Ready to find the solution? Every time you feel like you are delaying working on your dream, ask yourself,

“If today were the last day of your life, would you want to do what you are about to do today?

And then block all the external disturbances you have and just concentrate on that question. Think about it. Think very deeply about it. Get serious about it. Believe it to be true. And if you do what you just read, you won’t need to think even twice about how to start your work. Chances are, within minutes you’ll be pumped up to work and forget the rest.

Why this approach works?

Everyone is afraid of death. But the dreamers are afraid of death because they might not accomplish what they want to do. You don’t want to leave this world without making an impact and not serving millions of people who need your help. Do you? This question will help you clear all the doubt, confusion and tiredness you have and will truly help you focus on the task at hand without even delaying a single second.

Next time you feel stuck, ask yourself this question and see how the magic unfolds. For now, “If today were the last day of your life, would you want to do what you are about to do today?
